Recipe FAQs and Notes
Can I substitute other ground wild game meat?
Yes! You can easily substitute with ground elk, bear, or other red wild game meat.
Does ground venison taste like beef?
No, ground venison will not taste like beef. It has its own earthy flavor profile, different from ground beef. Venison is also a very lean meat, so ground venison has very little fat.
How to cook ground venison
Ground venison is very lean meat, which is why we always add some form of fat to the skillet when cooking. In this recipe, we add olive oil to the skillet as we brown the ground venison to give it fat to render with as it cooks. You could also use any other cooking oil such as avocado, tallow, canola, etc.
