I don’t know about you, but when it comes to making homemade gravy I. Was. Terrible. I could never get it right – it was either too salty, too flavorless, lumpy, or just like paste. But, after much practicing and testing, I finally mastered and EASY country-style sausage gravy made with our ground venison breakfast sausage.
Ingredients Needed
- 1 pound ground venison breakfast sausage
- 2 Tbsp. unsalted butter
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- cracked black pepper
- salt to taste
How to make country-style venison sausage gravy
- In a large skillet, add the ground venison breakfast sausage and cook over medium heat until fully cooked through.
- While the sausage is cooking, melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup. Add in the flour and stir to make a roux.
- Once the sausage has fully cooked, add in the roux and stir to combine.
- Slowly add in the milk, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook until thickened, stirring frequently.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve immediately.
